Solemnity of Mary, the holy mother of God.
Readings:
1R: Num 6:22-27 Ps 66 :2-3,5,6 &8
2R: Gal 4:4-7 Gos : Lk 2:16-21
On the first day of the new calendar year, the church celebrates the solemn feast of her newest creature, Mary and proposes her to be our model in really becoming " new creatures"
The church also reminds us that the only lasting and sure truth about the future is god's blessing.
The philosophers have said that "the only thing that is certain about the future is that it is uncertain"
That's why the church calls her children around the Eucharistic table and begin the new year with god.
