The Catholic Sabah unit of Corpus Christi Church Moodbidri had organised an awareness programme on vegetable cultivation on the terrace for its members and the parishioners’ on 3rd Aug 2014 in the parish hall.

By presiding over the function, the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Austin Peter Peres said that agriculture is our traditional occupation which is inherited with us thus some of us always throng for cultivating something in their small places available. In these days the most of our families live in terrace houses without having place for the cultivation.  But many of such families cultivate especially vegetables on their roof terrace. He appreciated for having such people in our parish and two of them coming as resource persons to share their experience. He wished that because of this awareness programme if at least 20 families practice their learning immediate in the next year and motivate others subsequently then it is worth conducting this programme.

The parishioners’ MS. Jacintha Monis and Mr. William Rodrigues came as the resource persons and shared their practical experience of growing different types of vegetables and also the medicinal plants in the small place around the house and in the terrace by using the gunny bags, cement bags etc. They explained how to prepare the soil by mixing organic manure, soil, fill it in bags and sawing the seeds. They also explained how to manure, water, pest control and take care of the plants. The resources persons have clarified the participants further by allowing them to ask the queries. For those interested in the subject, the resource persons have volunteered to share their knowledge and guide them further. Ms. Jacintha Monis exhibited different types of vegetables brought from her garden and gave away to the participants at free of cost, as she does it usually.
